What does your child learn at school each day? Find information about our curriculum subjects here.
To engage all learners through a creative curriculum, which develops knowledge about themselves a s learners and to have respect for others. For pupils to develop a life long love of learning and a desire to reach their own potential.
Prior learning in all subjects will be built upon, ensuring that Learning Objectives and questions are progressive. Learning will be effectively differentiated and based on gaps analysis. This will ensure that in the long term, knowledge and skills are embedded through a variety of teaching techniques, adapted to the individual needs of the learner.
Our cross curricular learning will allow pupils to make links between subjects and pieces of knowledge. There will be a love of reading and an enthusiasm to develop excellent mathematical skills throughout the school, as well as drive to carry out independent learning and research. School will be a positive environment, where all achievements are celebrated. At least national attainment and progress measures will be met.
Chris Quigley Essentials Curriculum Information
Our curriculum is underpinned by the Essentials Curriculum by Chris Quigley. This sets out the essential coverage, learning objectives and standards which are required for all subjects.
One of the main reasons we chose this curriculum is because it emphasises the importance of developing the depth of children's learning. In essence, this means providing the children with increased cognitive challenge, allowing them to apply the skills which they have learned independently in a range of contexts, rather than moving them onto the next skill, when they have not truly mastered it.
We feel that this curriculum provides us with a coherent, progressive and sequenced curricular structure, to enable our pupils to develop subject specific knowledge and skills to prepare them well for the next stage of their education. The curriculum builds on from the learning in the Foundation Stage. The milestones (1,2 and 3) are built into our curriculum, which has whole school termly themes:
Autumn 2020 - To Infinity and Beyond Autumn 2021 - Lights, Camera, Action!
Spring 2021 - Off With Her Head! Spring 2022 - The Journey
Summer 2021 - Eco Warriors Summer 2022 - Survival!
Please see Class pages for this term's curriculum plan and knowledge organisers.
The curriculum is aligned to the National Curriculum and goes beyond the National Curriculum requirements in each milestone, to ensure repetition of skills and knowledge.
Recovery Curriculum Autumn 2020
Due to the unprecedented times in which we find ourselves, this term we are very pleased to welcome all pupils back to on site learning. This follows a period of successful home learning for the majority of our pupils, during the school closures because of Covid 19. This term we are working hard through assessment for learning, to analyse learning gaps and making sure that well- being is at the forefront of our minds for the pupils, at all time. There is investment into IT and catch up resources to help our pupils.
