"I have a passion for teaching kids to become readers, to become comfortable with a book, not daunted. Books shouldn't be daunting, they should be funny, exciting and wonderful; and learning to be a reader gives a terrific advantage."
We use the reading scheme of Big Cat phonics to begin the children's reading experience. This is linked to their phonics that they follow. To begin with books have no words so as to encourage children to discuss the pictures and look for information. Questioning is an important part of reading to gage a child's understanding of the text and pictures. Later on this will help them with reading between the lines (inference). Reading is not just about decoding but also understanding.
